Bergen C. Vardell, BSN, CNM, WHNP-BC

Hi! I’m Bergen and being a part of the Nurture team brings a smile to my face every day!

Bergen C. Vardell, BSN, CNM, WHNP-BCMy passion as a midwife is partnering with women so that they feel supported, cared for and empowered-whether it be during well-woman visits or pregnancy/postpartum care. My hope is that each family I care for is able to embrace pregnancy, birth & parenting as amazing but normal, hard work but doable and unknown but also instinctive-and to walk alongside them as they find that place of knowing-knowing what is best and safest for themselves and their families.

Bergen C. Vardell, BSN, CNM, WHNP-BCMy journey to becoming a midwife started with nursing school. I earned my BSN from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ. After graduating I was commissioned and served as an active duty Army officer. I worked in various nursing settings, but when I began working in maternal child health I knew I had found where I belonged. After deciding to become a midwife I earned my MSN from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. I worked in busy Army hospitals for the next 5 years. It was at my first duty station as a midwife-Fort Hood, TX-that I met and worked with Liane. I immediately found a “sister midwife” in her and am thrilled to work alongside her again! After leaving active duty I worked in various settings including home birth and in a combined hospital/birth center practice. I’m currently adjunct faculty at Georgetown University in their online women’s health and midwifery graduate nursing program.

When I’m not working at Nurture or with my Georgetown students I’m enjoying time with my husband and our 3 ½ year old son. My other passion is cooking-if I wasn’t a midwife I’d be a pastry chef!
